Woburn & Wavendon FC

Woburn & Wavendon Football Club (formerly Woburn Lions and Woburn Lionesses) was re-named in 2014. After 35 successful years in our old guise, the re-branding recognised the evolving nature of the area we play football in, and its’ influence on the players, coaches, volunteers and families that make up the Club. Importantly, our boys and adult male teams continue to be known as “The Lions”, whilst the girls and ladies teams are still “The Lionesses”. “Very much a natural evolution, we see the re-branding as further progress for us, whilst still remaining true to our reputation for being a friendly and welcoming club offering sportsmanship, good organisation plus loads of fun and enjoyment” commented Club Chairman, Ian Doggett. Non profit-making and 100% volunteer run, Woburn & Wavendon F.C. is an F.A. Charter Standard Club. This means the club is proven to be well run, sustainable and places child protection, quality coaching and safety as paramount. A true testimony to our success is that new generations of many former players keep coming back to join our teams. Most of all though, The Lions & Lionesses are ALL ABOUT HAVING FUN. We aim to help all our players develop their full footballing potential, make friends and enjoy loads of smiles along the way. So whether you’re a player, coach, volunteer, relative or sponsor, we hope you like what the website has to show you, but more importantly are stimulated to “get involved and join the fun”!

Today we delivered our final Lionesses Wildcats session of 2019...and what a great initiative it has been this year!

We welcomed 62 girls along over the last few months to take part in our Lionesses Wildcats training sessions, which were delivered by a number of our current team coaches. From girls that hadn’t kicked a ball before to girls that have been the ‘training partner’ for their siblings in the garden; we have enjoyed every week of their journey!

Just like we do with all of our teams, we held a presentation at the end of today’s session to hand out (well earned) medals for their efforts. To make the day even more memorable, the players were joined by a helicopter landing on the pitch next to theirs, which paused all play for a few minutes as we all (kids and adults!) watched the landing and take off!

Our vision for the Centre was to give girls an opportunity to experience all of the fun and friendships that comes with football. We’re proud to say we did this both on and off the pitch! We provided various experiences on the pitch with our sessions as well as the opportunity to play as a team in our own tournament, as well as off the pitch with a trip to Wembley to watch the Women’s F.A. Cup final.

Whilst a number of the girls will carry on their footballing journey from September as they’ll be part of our new Lionesses teams, we also have a list of girls that want to come back next year and do it all again!

We’d just like to say ‘thank you’ to all girls, parents and club members as our Wildcats (and Pat!) wave away another great Wildcats year!
