As is the norm on this weekend in November, both teams impeccably observed a minutes silence , remembering those that have and those that still do, preserve the peace that in effect allows us to be standing at a young Ladies football match.

The day was horrible to put it mildly! The wind & rain not helping to give us a good game of football but the astro did mean the game was on, albeit the condition of the astro at Kempston continues to surprise many who play on it – the ball never seems to run or bounce as you think it will.

Captain Millie started on the bench due to having to miss training Weds. However, was needed very early as Carrie was unfortunately injured in a 50/50 tackle after just 4 minutes. Carrie’s injury not serious, but no need to risk it with all 16 of the squad in attendance. Woburn created openings but a combination of good defending, poor first touches and some over hit passes on the wet Astro, the Lionesses saw the score remain goalless until deep into injury time when Georgie’s persistence got the Lionesses a vital goal.

HT 0-1

1 minute in to the second half and a simple but highly effective Molly cross saw Casey score. 0-2 Woburn continued to press and hit both parts of the woodwork. A great volley smashes the bar from Amy, that would have broken the net if a little lower!  Casey though made the game secure on 55 minutes at 0-3 but nicely secured a Hat-Trick with a great header from a delightful corner from Alice on 82 minutes. A lot of strong runs from Emily, Madison & Chloe R helped to exhaust the opposition.

Not Woburn’s greatest game but ask supporters of Man City, Man United, or Chelsea I bet they would all agree, even in seasons they have won the league, at least one game was won that was not pretty to watch, how vital yesterday was Newcastle’s win at Bournemouth even though Bournemouth had twice as much possession and twice the number of shots!

Remember it all starts with a solid defence so credit to Jemma, Chloe A, Micky, Alice, Grace and Millie for holding strong, the Lionesses have only conceded 3 in 7 matches. Well done squad!
