Another beautiful morning for football.

Whirlwinds started the game well moving the ball around and completely dominating the game, the opposition looked like rabbits in a headlight after wave after wave of whirlwinds attacks came at them. On several occasions the ball flew centimeters wide, one hit the underside of the bar and straight down in to the ‘ keepers hands. The deadlock was finally broken half way through half a neat move was finished off by Sam A – 0-1. Whirlwinds then smelt blood and went for the kill a couple of minutes later Jack M scored his 100th club goal with a typical strikers finish – 0-2. The lead then trebled when Ajiri finally got a reward for his excellent wing play with a cross shot across the keeper 0-3. Unfortunately it seemed the referee and opposition coaches recognised the trouble their team were in and did their upmost to keep the score down by giving a string of decisions to the opposition. Half time 0-3, really we should have been 6 or 7 clear, a bit of luck and extremely biased officiating kept the score down.

HT 0-3

Wolverton started the second half with intent and a few minutes in, a basic defensive error gifted them a goal 1-3. This gave them more belief and they peppered us with a string of long balls, we had chances to kill the game off on the counter attack, Joe particularly unlucky with a shot which came back off the bar. Wolverton hit the post, then another failure to clear a corner, which has been our Achilles heel the season, rewarded Wolverton another goal 2-3. Whirlwinds seemed to galvanise and had a few opportunities to increase the lead, and also showed a bit more defensive resilience, in the end we saw the last 5 minutes out fairly comfortably,  to finish the game off with a well deserved win.

Scorers. Sam A, Jack M, Ajiri

MOM – Jack C, showed real character and resilience particularly in the 2nd half

Summary : That’s why we pay for a proper referee ! Thank you to the players and parents for not letting the opposition’s biased officiating and coaches antics, spoil what was a good in particular,  first half performance. We made it difficult for ourselves by gifting them a goal and giving the opposition something to grasp on to. With no subs we battled through and recorded a well deserved win. Special mention to Jack M – well done 100 goals in just over 2 seasons, a real reward for all your hard work.
