Woburn claim another win

The sun was out and it was perfect weather for a game of football.

We were at the home of MK wanderers who have always given us tough matches in the past as they are a very good side. We wanted to build on our great perfomance from the previous game against Halse last week.

We spoke about our game plan to keep the wanderers contained and our boys executed the tactics superbly. From the first whistle we were quick to the ball putting the wanderers players under pressure and forcing mistakes. On the ball we were quick, decisive and intelligent. We carved a handful of chances that was expertly saved from the wanderers keeper, this didn’t feel like a game where we wouldn’t score though, the manner in which we played was confident.

Wanderers are a very physically strong team but our boys were up for the battle and were resolute in their challenges and kept any danger at bay for long periods of the first half. Our defence impressed hugely thanks to their communication and keeping a solid unit at the back which allowed our midfielders to give a wave after wave of attacking influence.

The deadlock was finally broken towards the end of the first half, we witnessed some real life fifa tekkers! A short corner was passed to Ethan, he swiftly controlled the ball, flicked it over the defender and then hit a half volley into the top corner. WHAT A WORLDIE!!

Half time 0-1

We knew that the wanderers hadn’t been at the races for the first half and we expected a much different performance from them, we couldn’t allow ourselves to be sloppy after being so comfortable.

As suspected, the Wanderers flew out of the box and pressed a little quicker, tackled a little harder, we were under pressure for the first time in the game but the players dug in deep and refused to be beat. Mark making a great stop 1 on 1 with their striker then in the resulting melee from the rebound our defenders made a series of last ditch tackling to prevent an equaliser! The best of the bunch must have been the last gasp clearance from the goal line from Sonny as he raced back to save a certain goal.

We weathered the storm and began to play football again, playing lots of nice combinations to get forward quickly, we started to make more chances but the wanderers keeper was having an amazing game and made save after save, If it wasn’t for him the scoreline could have been a high one!

We left our second goal late on too, after some great combination play the ball found its way onto the right flank, the ball was whipped in, it bounced over the defender and as the keeper came out to colect, Lewis darted in to loop a header into the empty net.

Full time 0 – 2

A great performance from the lads with some superb football being played. We take on Roman Rangers next week.
