The first match of 2017, today’s preparations began with gifts from Maxwell to celebrate Chinese New Year (year of the Rooster) and encouragement from Curious George the fluffy monkey. Oh and a new nickname invented by Alexander: ‘Salmon Teriy-Aggy’ (“you know, it’s fish with a sauce and noodles”).

The Panthers played really well, putting 4 players into attack at times, making it really difficult to defend. This was a very even game and a great one to watch.

Q1: passes stuck in the mud
Q2: lots of rescue tackles
Q3: on the defensive
Q4: a counter attacking masterclass.

* Lewis – a Q1 clean sheet and a shot that magically bounced twice on the crossbar.
* Maxwell – defending on his own against two Panthers, waiting until the perfect moment to tackle.
* Agastya – a dragback pass to Maxwell in Q1 and a fantastic Tommy-Two-Touch goal. Also, save after save in Q4.
* Alexander – only taking 2 minutes to take off his new hoody coming on as sub… and then a killer pass to Jack in Q4.
* Jack – a 1-2-1-2 passing move with Lewis to move forward through the Olney defence.
* Finley – volunteering to be emergency keeper and then making three great saves in Q3.
* Noah – a booming block tackle to stop an Olney attack before it could begin.
* Jake – a crunchy tackle to win the ball and then play a killer pass forward to Jack. Two assists today!
* Thomas – winning the ball, dribbling past a player in midfield and then playing a perfect killer pass to Lewis.
