The first League game of the season and tough opposition in the form of AFC Kempston.

It was slightly into the unknown, as a few new players meant Kempston had a different style to previous games, which certainly started with some crunching tackles. With virtually a full squad and no injuries, Pat had everything at his disposal to counter the strong Kempston players. Charlie making an early save among several strong tackles from Chloe, Grace Michaela and Millie. Going forward though a fantastic ball from Molly to Emily eventually resulted in a Woburn Corner. Carrie with a couple of close headers and Molly with her usual long range effort, gave Kempston plenty to think about. On 37 minutes, a moment of class, as Amy trapped a ball with her body, allowed it to drop, striking the ball on the volley. A fantastic way to open your league account on your debut in Woburn colours.

HT 1-0  (45mins)

On 50 minutes, Molly presented Amy with a much simpler effort. 2-0 Also worthy of note – Molly delaying a throw in to point out to the referee she was waiting for a Kempston player to use an inhaler. Even in a competitive game nice to see a bit of fair play. Therefore on 63 minutes a deserved goal from Molly to seal the result. 3-0

Woburn have definitely improved with many positives over the pre-season, still more to come as early days!

However, a statistic to leave you with – the last 83 league and cup games have seen 71 Lionesses wins, 2 draws and 10 defeats. Maybe the “Special One” will be at the common on Saturday searching for inspiration.

Well played everyone!

Pat and Steve
