Lionesses perform well on the big stage

The Lionesses played their a full part in an entertaining draw with City Belles on Saturday. The friendly was played away at Broughton with a 9v9 format on a big pitch.

Freed from their league duties for a week the Lionesses played an experimental line up which gave several players a chance to play in different positions. Erin and Emily played in defence with Sophie operating in the holding midfield role and Neve starting up front.

The Lionesses were on the front foot from the off and went ahead following a driving run from Nia which ended with a great finish. City Belles responded with a quick break to make it 1-1.

The Lionesses have developed some great corner routines this season and their second goal came as a result of good movement off the ball and a great delivery from Neve. The forwards dragged the defence out of position to leave Sacha in plenty of space and after taking an initial touch she buried the ball in the back of the net.

To be fair to the hosts they responded well again and despite a great first save from Olivia, City Belles drew level from the rebound. 2-2 at the break and there no furthger goals in the second half. A great work out for the Lionesses who unlike their hosts had no subs on the bench today. Well done girls!

Team: Olivia, Nia, Neve, Sophie, Sacha, Emily, Erin, Ophelia, and Maisie.
