Cyclones today we’re back in league action today against City colts tigers who so far were unbeaten in the league drawing against New City Stars & Southside Utd who we had dropped points against also,so was going to be tough game in store .
To add to that it was simple maths for us today if we won we were guaranteed runners up and still with a very small chance of sharing the title.
So before the game started we spoke to the boys explaining that if we win we get a medal so that’s all we needed to say.
Game started and we started very slow not the tempo we like but we were creating chances and we just needed to be patient and keep concentration especially at the back city colts seemed like they wanted to try and get us on the counter attack and had a few chances but the defence got it clear and when they didn’t Korban yet again showed us the form he has been showing in recent weeks,I’m starting to struggle what to keep saying about him.
In our attacking play Alex lead the line with Bailey and Sam either side providing pace down the wings with Callan and Charlie holding the centre of midfield.
We just couldn’t score!
Having 3 boys on the bench who to be honest could start but for it only being 9 aside is great for us with the squad we have and the ability in it we can make changes that sometimes change something and today was the day,due to the heavy pitch and a lot of running in the middle we swapped Callan for Alfie and with in a couple of minutes he put the ball it the the net.
So the first half finished 1-0.
Half time team talk we just told the boy pick up the work rate and we will win it we are only 1 up and we needed to be careful not to let them back in.
So the second half starts and what do we do a few minutes in we concede a silly goal poor defending left them with 3 against 1 in the box and sadly they were back level and the game was there for either side now.
They goal was disappointing but the response was excellent we seem to wake up and started to respond Malik and Aaron now down the wings Malik dribbling the ball and linking well and Aaron who today looked right up for the physical part of the game down the right.
But the biggest surprise was the goal scorer of our 2nd goal and the way he took it,a few times today John had made several runs with the ball which is great Callum and John have really started to do this more often recently with good success and this was by far Johns best he picked the ball up on the left great control then made a run into the centre and did what we had been telling all the boys to do take a shot! And what a goal it was I’m not sure who was happier him or terry.
That goal seemed to then give our boys the belief and all 12 of them began to show the ability and team work we have had in recent weeks (Korban less than the others obviously).
We were making chances and the goals kept coming Alex was fed through took it past the keeper and the defender chasing back fouled him penalty ! Although Alex could have finished it but the ref had already awarded the penalty.
Up stepped Callum and the ball was put into the net with confidence, good job I’m sure Korban would like another go after last weeks penalty.
It was soon 4 when this time Sam was the player fed through and scored another goal to his name which he deserved after playing out of his usual position for most of the game.
And then to finally finish the scoring Aaron who I had said earlier was enjoying the physical challenge was put through on the right and he did his usual and hit it with such force to make it 5 although kerry missed it as usual (bad mum).
So that was it full time cyclones 5-1 city colts tigers.
In all a great team performance which guarantees us the runners up spot in league 3 and possibly joint winners if Southside Utd were to lose there final game and we win ours but I personally don’t see them losing but you never know footballs a funny old game.
We should be proud whatever happens in the final games as coaches since the Southside defeat we have started playing football the way we know they can, scoring 13 goals for and 2 against in the 2 league games and remember 3 years ago we were put in division 7 and we now have won promotion to division 2.
A Great achievement !
We thank city colts tigers for the game today played in a good spirit and wish them well for the rest of the season.
