Ampthill Town F.C 7 1 WWFC - Whirlwinds
11th November
Abbey Lane, Ampthill, MK45 2TW
County Cup

A two minute silence before the game and the away team proudly wearing their poppies.

The game got underway with the home team looking to press home their early dominance, Whirlwinds a little shaky at the back, an error allowed Ampthill a shot which thumped back off the foot of the post, it was a bit of a let off. Nathan then spilled a corner, but it was scrambled away. Ampthill were largely camped in the away side’s half, Whirlwinds were working hard and restricting the home team to very few opportunities to threaten the goal. Gradually they pushed a bit forward, with two or three good counter attacks. Confidence was starting to grow with the away team now competing in all areas of the pitch and the game starting to level out. As half time approached a throw in the left back was thrown inside and then a rushed pass was intercepted, Ampthill midfielder drove forward and unleashed a powerful strike from 25 yards which Nathan couldn’t get across too 1-0.

HT 1-0

Whirlwinds were fairly positive at half time, they had weathered the early storm, worked hard and believed they could get something on the counter attack.

Back out for the second half, Whirlwinds full of energy and running. Their hard work paid off, a ball in to Ibu, he spun and played a perfectly weighted ball in to Oliver’s run, he raced clear of the defence and lashed his shot past the ‘keeper 1-1. They were well and truly back in the game, but only for a few minutes, Ampthill got a bit of fortune, with a cross just hitting an Ampthill player and rolling in the corner of the net 2-1. The home team were becoming increasingly late in tackles, Billy on the end of 3 or 4 dangerous challenges through the back, Referee giving fouls but failing to protect the away side with no further punishment handed out. Ampthill quickly added a third again a defensive error gifting them an opportunity to score 3-1. Whirlwinds were still in the game, Ampthill looked a very divided team, put under some pressure the cracks would have opened. Sadly all the effort and endeavour the away side showed in the first 50 minutes, was thrown away, a few heads dropped after the third goal went in, effort levels dropped rapidly throughout the team. Ampthill happy to take advantage adding another four goals to their tally.

FT 7-1.

Scorer: Oliver

P.O.T.M: Oliver took his goal really well, was one of the few who kept working hard for the entire match.
