Lionesses goals from: Georgie x 1 and Emily x 1
POM: Emily and Georgie
This was always going to be a tough close game and we were not disappointed. Only though after the entire squad had “Poppies” added to their shirts, as the girls of both sides respected 2 minutes silence on this remembrance weekend.
Opening exchanges saw Woburn strongly defend, with Millie’s heading of the ball being a major factor. On 16 minutes though it was another defensive rock that in heading the ball clashed heads with a Luton player and Jemma needed to leave the field dazed. The first of a few knocks that saw Justine our “17th girl” a little busier than normal. It was more a game of chess at times than football as the 2 teams tried to out manoeuvre one another. Half time reached with a 0-0 score line still intact.
The second half opened up a bit, as play swung from end to end more, but it was not until the 60th minute that Georgie through sheer determination, was finally able to beat the Luton Keeper. As the minutes ticked by Pat opted for a more defensive approach with Chloe A on to give 5/6 defensive players in front of Leanne. However, Luton did have the ball in the back of the net, but only after the whistle had already blown, as the ball had been kicked from Leanne’s hands. A wonder tackle from Millie, one of the best goal line clearance with a Grace header we have seen and a save from Leanne, all preserved the slender lead, before Emily “ghosted” in from the right, after Chloe and Carrie had moved the ball up the field, to calmly pick her spot and secure the victory.
Well done to all the girls!
