Still No Joy in the League
On a sunny autumnal day after the rain, the game was played on an immaculate pitch helped by a quirk which had seen to Flitwick Town men’s teams not use a home pitch the day before. The scene was set with Flitwick looking to avenge Woburn’s County Cup win in October, aarly play was even but a free kick conceded 25 yards out proved to be the break for Flitwick on 10 minutes as Bridget was only able to parry the high shot into the net. A valiant effort looking into the sun at a well taken free kick.
Woburn did not capitulate and were even prepared to attack from defence. Sisterly understanding saw Alice and Grace move the ball with neat interchanging of passes the entire length of the field winning a corner. Chloe and Ashley both had chances with Chloe going the closest from a 25 yard effort that was blocked. Jay, Charlotte and Dom all had shots towards goal but possibly the pick of the players that was giving Flitwick a hard time was debutant Alex. Another Crilly signing to enhance a team where the results do not match the underlying skill, best demonstrated with some close control from Lucy .
Hard to say on 46 minutes if Flitwick meant to shoot or it was a cross but unless there had been a 7 foot tall keeper available it was a goal all the way. Rob rotated players to avoid injuries developing, Jess having come on in the first half sharing duties with Chloe and Grace. Shelby adding to the rotation further forward. Woburn kept on pressing but paid the penalty as 2 late goals gave a slight unjust appearance of a one sided game which this certainly was not.
