A very welcome game for the Lionesses who desperately needed a run out.

Much hard work before hand to prepare the ground for play, it was touch and go if it would or should go ahead due to wet and muddy conditions. Thankfully it did, but with the Lionesses still asleep, as within 30 seconds of kick off we were 0-1 down!  Less said the better but ‘concentration levels’ were questioned.

This uncharacteristic start just confirming why it’s very hard to stay sharp over Christmas & New year.

Northampton started the brighter by far, but we did start to try and play football against this very useful team who had definitely come to win! and with whom we had drawn 3-3 in a pre season friendly.

A lot of end to end football with great character being shown by the Lionesses hampered slightly by not having Georgie, Madison or Molly all normally regular starters!

It took 39 minutes for the Lionesses to get the breakthrough they deserved and from a Grace shot, Chloe R followed up and as usual was in the right place at the right time.

1-1 .

No sooner had we got the goal back, and in the blink of an eye and a lack of communication they hit us with 2 more goals!

Half time 1-3 down! Reality check!  Team talk was to the point and very clear we had to win the second half and I think we did, with some good flowing one touch football on the floor. It then started to rain again! Pitch started to cut up and it was harder to play our normal brand of passing football.

Not even Molly could get the ball in the net, so unlucky hitting the woodwork.

Chloe R was again working hard upfront and got her just reward for her tenacity with a great individual goal. 2-3 . Lionesses pile on the pressure wave after wave pressing forward. Then it all came to a stop as the Northampton Goalkeeper fell with two players falling on top of her hitting her head . She could not continue and with the rain and pitch getting worse the game was abandoned with 20 minutes left on the clock.

Our aim was achieved ! To get a tough game before our County Cup clash against Kempston Saturday 16th, result not important ! Well played to all the 14 Lionesses  Leanne, Charlie, Chloe A, Millie, Micky, Grace, Alice, Jemma, Amy, Carrie, Emily, Casey, Chloe R, Molly who all worked hard and never gave up.

POM Chloe R.
