On arrival at Garston’s ground, the impressive Met Police HQ at Bushey, the allocated pitch was probably the most frosty of the 10 or so pitches. However the referee was happy the pitch was playable so all was set for what we knew would be a tight game. Garston are good hosts and a very welcome addition to the league playing good quality football. Woburn made a fast start as Chloe A put Georgie away with a great through ball 2 minutes in which was forced out for a corner. The first 20 minutes saw 1 Garston chance to 5 Woburn with the best away effort being a Georgie shot tipped over the bar. The second 20 was slightly more even but the closest to goal was Georgie again seeing her effort blocked on the line.

Half time 0-0.

On 42 minutes Rosie’s long range effort broke the deadlock. 0-1. A well organised defence kept Garston at bay and with a solid midfield Woburn did attempt to get the second, for 38 more minutes, but to no avail in spite of the pressure. Into injury time a powerful Woburn shot from Rosie, hit a Garston arm on the line. Penalty taker Carrie, back on after an injury forced her off earlier, made no mistake and cleanly hit the back of the net. Not Woburn at their best but a really good competitive game when, at this stage of the season you have to grind out results.

A special well done to all of the squad, not just for todays great result, but for ending 2014 as league leaders. It will take a special group of young ladies to continue this run, but we think we definitely have this special group!!

All that remains, is to wish all our supports a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
