County Cup

Squad: Charlie, Leanne, Millie, Grace, Chloe A, Carrie, Emily, Molly, Alice, Casey, Chloe R, Georgie

Lionesses goals: Casey x 3 (1 pen), Georgie x 1, Molly x 3

Final score: 0 – 7

Not a good start in many ways, as news overnight and in fact hours before kick off, left the Lionesses depleted by 3 due to ill health.

It was always going to be a tough game against our old rivals Kempston. Again we had to line up against 10 players. We don’t like it when we have to change our plans at short notice, but by this time we were already on plan D! Tough decisions to pull this one out of the bag!!

Game started very evenly but for some reason, the Lionesses did not look at all like themselves. No fight or grit that normally shines through. So no surprise when we were only 0 – 1 up after 29 minutes, with Molly scoring straight from a corner.

Half time 0 – 1

Coaching staff livid, to put it mildly! Strong words used at half time to the whole team to wake up and show our true colours. Just like a light switch, the girls came out looking like a different team. An unbelievable change in our grit and determination – it took only 3 minutes for Casey to net a penalty earned for Georgie’s efforts when she was challenged in the box. 0 – 2

2 minutes later, Georgie deservedly scored the third 0 – 3. Composure set in and any nervousness evaporated. 3 minutes later Casey got her hat trick on 57 minutes. On 79 minutes Molly gets a yard of space and hit the back of the net 0 – 6. 5 minutes later Molly got her hat trick. 0 – 7.

Some great defensive work from Millie, Grace, Alice and Chloe, who stood strong together with Leanne and Charlie to keep a clean sheet. Special mention for Chloe R, Emily and Carrie for reacting well to lots of tactical changes to win this county cup tie.

Well done to the 12 Lionesses who pulled off a very good victory and as they often say in football – this truly was a game of 2 halves!!!
