Can’t Quite Hang On

Buoyed by 2 good performances in friendlies the Ladies finally got to play a competitive game this season even with 13 players available giving a strong side university/work commitments still left Sharna, Jay and Lauren missing. Three players who regularly start, however Rob’s dealings in the summer transfer market have proved fruitful . Woburn were dominating early play built on a foundation of a solid defence worth noting at the same time the Woman’s Super League was being won by a Man City team that have conceded 3 goals in 15 games! The loss of Shelby to a groin strain in the opening half hour could have proved costly but substitute Bridget somehow poked a ball into the net a “shot” that seemed to take a minute to travel 6 yards. I am not sure if Jess still regards herself as an outfield player or a goalkeeper, today she had a superb game in goal, as the first half wore on and was more even she made the best of 3 good saves , with her weight and balance on her left foot she switched to a low dive to the right to push a shot around the post.
HT 1-0

Flitwick came out firing on all cylinders and on 57 minutes got the equaliser but the game was now end to end Woburn just lacking someone to control the ball and set-up a chance. The status quo looked like it would hold until 6 minutes before time when Flitwick were able to tap in a crossed ball. Not a lot to choose between the sides and numerous spectators commenting on what a good game it was.
