A grey cold afternoon in Amtphill, on a lumpy pitch, with the tip in full operation behind the goal, it was hardly a setting befitting to the beautiful game.

Hurricanes kicked off, Louie played back to Alex, Alex traveled forward unchallenged and chipped a ball over the top, which Louie pounced on and slotted past the keeper, less than 10 seconds on the clock 0-1. Hurricanes dominated the early part of the game, spraying the ball around, Louie added a further 3 goals in the first 15 minutes, before being substituted with the scoreline at 0-4. Ampthill did have a good chance to get on the scoresheet, a bit of complacency at the back and lack of cover, presented a chance, but the attacker could only fire wide of the goal.

Benji, on as a sub, added a fifth, with a good strike at the edge of the box 0-5. Andrew was unlucky to see his header from a corner hit the top of the bar. Ampthill again had another chance to score, some unsure defending, presenting an opportunity that wasn’t taken. Hurricanes, still enjoying at least 75% possession, were creating enough chances, but just trying to force things a little in the last third, didn’t add to the score before half time.

HT 0-5

Half time team concentrated on not trying to force things too much, we needed just to settle and play our football and create opportunities.

The second half followed the pattern of the first, Alex starting the second half in a more advanced position, bagged two early goals 0-7. He then turned provider, with a super cross which Oscar acrobatically scissor kick volleyed home (I know – who would have thought the words Oscar and Acrobatic, would appear next to each other in a sentence?) It was however the goal of the game 0-8. Louie then added his fifth of the game 0-9. Joe who had threatened to score with a couple of headers going wide and over the bar, finally got on the scoresheet 0-10. Ethan operating as a second half striker, showed great pace to beat the defence and tap past the ‘keeper 0-11. Oscar then finished the scoring, smashing home from close range 0-12.

FT 0-12

Summary: It was a difficult game in many ways, very easy to over play and try and force things, which we fell in to a little at the end of the first half. We played some lovely ball throughout the game, and it was nice to give the full squad plenty of time on the pitch.

M.O.T.M: Lots of confident performances today, Louie had a blistering start to the game, Alex & Benji showed real quality, Oscar’s movement was great and grabbed a couple of goals. Kian making his debut looked calm and assured, and will be a very good addition to the squad. This weeks award goes to Nathan, very solid at left back, used the ball neatly and sensibly.
