A stiff breezy afternoon at Bow Brickhill for the return visit of Eastcotts Stingrays.
Hurricanes immediately taking the game to the visitors, encamped in the opposition half with Eastcotts having no means of escape. The early pressure paid dividends, Joe & Benji combining on the left for the latter to play teasing ball down the flank for Oscar to run on to, his first touch was a sumptuous left foot cross, that Louie gave the finishing touch it deserved, centre of goal powering a header in to the back of the net 1-0. The home team were certainly keen to kill off their opponents early, just a few minutes later, some great play down the right from Joseph, his chipped cross met on the half volley by Jordan, the sweetly struck shot smashing in the roof of the net for his first goal for the Hurricanes 2-0.
Eastcotts, two goals down and had yet not even managed to get across the halfway line, decided the best bet was to pack bodies behind the ball and shut up shop. Space was at a premium, Alex should have made it three, but his first touch got away from him, stretching he could only poke the ball in to the side netting. He made up for it sending over a lovely cross which Louie took on the volley, steering it in the far corner 3-0. It spelled a change in tactic for Eastcotts, realising that they just couldn’t sit in and hope to keep the score down, they introduced some pace up front, which proved a thorn in the side for the home team, who found themselves having to defend their half for the first time in the game.
A vibrant half time team talk, we needed to deliver more crosses in to the box as it was having great success for us, but be aware of the pace on the break that Eastcotts showed in the latter stage of the first half.
Hurricanes continued their dominance, soon adding a fourth, Louie bursting on to a perfectly weighted ball from Donny, powering in to the box, he was upended by a defender and the Referee pointed to the spot. Benji stepped up to take it, sending the keeper the wrong way 4-0. A rare scare for the home side, a looping shot caught the wind, Hayden doing well the get a hand to it right in front of the cross bar. At the other end a cross from Donny was met on the volley Louie, his shot thumping against the underside of the bar, Hurricanes claiming it had clearly crossed the line before being hoofed away to safety, no goal line technology installed at Bow Brickhill yet, so in the absence of any help from the assistant Referee (not sure he could see that far) play was allowed to continue. Hayden fumbled a weak shot and it was somehow scrambled away under pressure, he then pulled off a good save diving away to his right to push the ball out for a corner. Eastcotts were enjoying a good spell in the game and got their reward, a long ball that Kieron looked to have covered, he was clearly fouled, the Referee didn’t think so, still with two covering defenders the danger should have been snuffed out, but the Eastcotts attacker ran towards goal and took full advantage of some uncommitted defending to score 4-1.
It seemed to bruise a few ego’s and straight away Benji played in Donny, who powered passed his marker and made a direct route to goal, smashing his shot past the ‘keeper 5-1. The game was drawing to a close, but still the home team had time to add another, again Donny driving down the right he pinged a cross to the back post where Louie rose to steer a header back across goal and in, 6-1.
Scorers: Louie (3), Jordan, Benji (P), Donny
P.O.T.M – Luca, loads of energy up and down the right flank.
