A wet and windy morning, for our first league game of 2016, after a couple of January postponements.
The home side started the game playing in to the strong wind. Keeping the ball on the floor was key and they did this to good effect in the opening exchanges. Ajiri had the best of the early chances firing a low shot just wide. P.S.G are a good footballing team and we’re moving the ball around well, the home side were not having everything there own way. Good work from Billy and Oliver in midfield threaded a ball through to Jack M, who span and fed a ball in behind the back line for Ajiri to race on to and fire low and hard in to the corner 1-0. The away side then had a good 10 minute spell, a few long range shots stinging Nathan’s palms, forcing a series of corners, which in the main were dealt with well. The home side normally so calm and assured in possession at the back, were causing themselves problems with several rash decisions. A quick counter attack at the other end, Sam fed Jake, cutting in towards the edge of the box his chip sailed over the keeper and in, running back he admitted his intention was to cross the ball, shame because it was a superb finish ! 2-0. P.S.G always looked neat and tidy in possession however the home side were getting to grips in midfield and looked the more threatening as the half closed, Oliver sending a glancing header just wide from a corner and then firing over the bar on the volley from a few yards out.
Half time team talk revolved around making better decisions when in possession.
With the wind at their backs the home side should have had the advantage in the 2nd half. However it was P.S.G who got the early upper hand, Nathan called in to action on a few occasions, the home side were struggling with their of weight of pass, and taking too many touches in the attacking third, making it easier for opposition to close off the space. The away side looked the more threatening a couple of wayward defensive passes were not punished as they should have done, it wasn’t, to be 3rd time lucky, as they were punished for some poor defending 2-1. It had been coming and was well deserved by the away side. Fortunately it had the effect of waking up the home side. With 7 or 8 minutes to go, they now started to squeeze and dominate in midfield, Jack M had a great mazy run down the left cutting in to the box, he chose to try and shoot from a tight angle when a simple pull back wo surely have been tapped in by one of the three on coming attackers. Jake went close his goal bound shot just deflected over. Billy now wining everything in midfield took the ball down powered past two lunges and rifled a shot from just outside the box low in to the left hand corner 3-1. The final exchanges saw the home side still on top and looking to add what would probably been a undeserved fourth.
Scorers : Ajiri, Jake, Billy.
Summary: We dealt with the conditions in the first half quite well, and were good value for the two goal lead. The second half we were outplayed for 20 minutes and our performance was pretty poor. We warned before the game about complacency and we were far too complacent, however we responded well too conceding and wrestled back control of the game.
It was difficult today as the majority of the team were well below par, Oliver, Jake, Ajiri Billy and Jack M, all made good contributions and did well in spells, this weeks award goes to Nathan, he was worked much harder than usual and made some important saves.
