League Game

Our third meeting with Leighton, having previously drawn and lost, this time the challenge was to continue our good form and try to win… but I’d settle for a good team performance.

We started slow, and were lucky not to concede from the first attack when a shot rattled the crossbar. Thankfully there weren’t too many more attempts on our goal as Luca and Daniel organised the defence and allowed our forward players to exploit the spaces in the attacking third.

Soon the chances were ours to create, slick passes and great movement led to a convincing half time lead.

TEAMTALK – although the response to the early scare was good, we needed to be aware not to relax our play, just because we were leading. Our message (as always) ‘play to the end of the game’

The second half kicked off, and again, a long range effort struck our goal frame. As if like deja vu, the players took responsibility and settled the game down before adding more goals.

The game then took an unexpected and unpleasant turn, as the opposition coach became increasingly frustrated with the game! This was reflected onto the pitch, when his team sadly lost their discipline.

Thankfully our team didn’t react, and completed the game with a fine performance.

HOMEWORK – try to focus on the game, and remain focused even if there are distractions which are out of your control. You may be tested at times, but try to not react.
