One of the Lionesses U11’s, Lily, asked to come along to the 16’s game today, she acted as a sort of mascot managing to score a spectacular goal warming up with the girls! Good luck to her with her football career. Football might be a “funny 0ld game”, today felt strange probably because all the preparation was for a game that could go to the wire, but when after 2 minutes Carrie hits a spectacular 30 yard free kick and 4 minutes later Molly, from open play does the same from 25 yards, everything changes. It should be noted the goals were even more special as the girls were playing with smaller youth goals today. The game did tighten up with limited chances for Georgie and a good save from Charlie, before Molly took on the entire Leighton defence and shot as rounding the 4th player. 0 – 3 and only 22 minutes gone.
The defensive qualities of the U16’s are as always the starting point for the forward success – Michaela given a special job of marking today, never gave Leighton a chance never mind Grace, Millie, Alice or Chloe A. On 46 Minutes Molly extended the lead and Woburn looked comfortable. 0 – 4. Leighton did pull one back in spite of Charlie’s heroic effort to stop a penalty, awarded as Millie appeared to just clip a Leighton players heel. Just in case this alarmed the watching spectators, Grace stretched the lead 5 minutes later from about 2 miles out! 1 -5. Molly adding a late 6th to give the team confidence into the later stages of the season. Rosie, Carrie and Emily had all created plenty more chances in what could have been an even bigger score.
Well played U16s!
