It was the first competitive game of the New Year for most of the girls, although Chloe became the first of the squad to debut for the ladies last weekend.

The opening minutes saw Woburn looking great going forward but probably a little rusty and even Georgie’s 7th minute opener did not quite ease any nervousness. However things started to click and the defence found its shape not only defending well and keeping a close eye on attacks with players like Michaela in the middle, the fullbacks in Alice, Grace and Chloe were feeding Rosie and Emily down the wings. Both wingers were giving the LPR defence a torrid time particularly Emily who had an outstanding first half.

Goal 2 came after a Rosie shot was blocked on 14 minutes and on 25 minutes Emily set up Madison for the third. When 4 minutes later Rosie made it 4-0, this game looked like it was Woburn’s, Molly and then Rosie from Emily’s cross made it 6-0, with only 35 minutes gone. Still time though for Leanne to make a great save at the feet of the LPR forward.

The second half saw Woburn rotate the team with Charlie playing at centre forward and later we were treated to Grace pushed forward as the girls attacked the Shed End with the wind behind them. Charlie immediately had a goal (which was a brilliant outside of the boot flick) disallowed for a foul on the keeper. Further goals from Georgie, Rosie and Molly gave Woburn a 9-0 lead. With Carrie getting game time after illness and Lauren playing a full game and demonstrating her good inter-passing in midfield, with Alice as solid as ever with the other defenders, Woburn were comfortably in the lead. A moment of magic from LPR’s Amy saw a fantastic 25 yard shot finally breach Woburn’s defence on 70 minutes, however Molly had the final say, whose effort was sublime to complete a hat-trick of hat–tricks for Woburn players.

Great start to 2015!
