Cyclones today were away to MK Wanderers Kestrels in our final league game of this winter league division 3 season and wanting a win to finish the league off with a positive finish and a slight chance of going to a play off if Southside were to slip up against Sharnbrook (not that we expected it).

So today was all about a good performance just like the 2nd half last week.

And we started of slow as usual but to be fair on the boys we struggled with the small pitch certainly something over teams complain about but we just have to get on with it and we eventually got to grips with it and finally we got our first goal some good team work in the box and Callan calmly placed the ball I the corner from the edge of the box from a wanderers clearance.

We then got a second shortly afterwards Aaron again finishing after a scrabble in the area.

Goal number 3 again came shortly afterwards and was made from some quick thinking from Bailey.

The Wanderers keepers goal kicks were not very long or high in the game and we had won the ball a few times getting to it first and for the third goal Bailey beat two Wanderers players to the ball and with the keeper one side of his area hit the shot first time which sadly for him hit the post but thankfully Alex was awake and followed it in to put it into the net, great awareness from Bailey and we was gutted for him but also pleased with Alex’s following up.

Our fourth goal was also very pleasing some great play down the right from the boys and then e ball was crossed and Malik was there to finish the ball from the left side which he was pleased with against his former team.

Goal 5 was a own goal from the Wanderers keeper after Alex fizzed a ball across the the right and the keeper missed kicked the clearance into his net but he had to try as we had a few boys lining themselves up for it behind him.

So half time finished mk wanderers 0-5 cyclones.

To be fair we had done ok but we were only at 60-70% at most,we wanted the boys not to sit back and we wanted the boys to step it up win the ball get the passing going and not let Wanderers get any chance to make it hard work, and the boys seemed to understand that.

Well so we thought to be honest we probably played 15 minutes of the worst football this season not winning one ball sloppy passing and we just let Wanderers gain in confidence and they got a goal they deserved from it again from some sloppy passing in the middle we let them score a easy goal certainly disappointed with it from our perspective.

That goal seemed to wake us up a little and we then had several chances Sam who has been scoring for fun this season seemed to not have his usual composure today he was desperate to score as he also played for Wanderers(although it was for the Hawks) but the more he tried the more he snatched at it,Alfie hit the post and had several chances.

Our 6th goal finally came a speculative effort from Callum from the right side just inside our half looked like was creeping in as the keeper was off her line but managed to scrabble it away but Alex again with his quick thinking and his poacher instinct was again there to follow it up and score.

Alex then completed his hat trick with a shot into the top right hand corner from a defensive mistake, and he certainly deserved that hat-trick.

So that finished the scoring for today Cyclones winning today 1-7.

Today wasn’t our best performance but I guess we have played better and not had such a positive result so should really be pleased with that, and with Southside winning 8-2 we finish as runners up and promotion to division 2.

Stand out players for me today were Alex and Bailey.

The teams performance was below par and not 100% but Bailey certainly tried to take control of it and his great thinking from the goal kick was a great example of this.

Alex again played in several positions but showed us why he is a good striker and not just a utility player for us in the midfield/defence but we know that already but for the last few weeks he’s been used further back from the oppositions goal so this was good for his confidence.

He’s following up today not just for his goals, but other players goals and attempts we had today certainly made him the stand out player.

We thank MK Wanderers for the game today and wish them well for the season and credit there boys for the never give up attitude even though at half time they were down 0-5, which is great to see and I’m sure there parents and coaches are proud of that.

So 2014 finishes with another promotion for the cyclones and and a team improving all the time.

We wish you all a happy Christmas and look forward to seeing you all in 2015 and hope we are all looking forward to the next challenge for the Cyclones in division 2.
