NO FIREWORKS FOR WOBURN AS TORNADOES SPARKLE

Following the 11-goal thriller against City Colts Cougars last week, Woburn returned home for their latest encounter, this time against Moretonville Juniors Tornadoes. All Hurricanes were present, including the still-injured Kian doing his bit to support the team (and fetch footballs from the hedge). A well-observed minute’s silence was held for Remembrance Day, the players wearing their poppies with pride, then the game began.

Early signs were good for Woburn, with corners and some good attacking play however they went behind as a snap shot from the edge of the box clipped Freddie‘s foot, looped up and evaded Evan‘s grasp. 0-1. Woburn had a chance to make amends when a free kick was awarded on the edge of the box, but Mitchell’s drive was well held by the confident keeper. Jeremy then went close but again the stopper was equal to the task, and half time came with the score still 0-1.

So, could Woburn yet again turn around a deficit as they attacked downwind? Spoiler alert: no. Although they again exerted early pressure, a Moretonville corner and header doubled the lead. 0-2. Indeed, it could and should have become 3, but Charles‘ goal line clearance prevented further scores. And so it finished 0-2, a disappointing way to lose the 100% record although great credit to Moretonville for closing down Woburn’s play and keeping a clean sheet. Next up for Woburn – the chance to remove the final 100% record from Roman Rangers Yellows. Can they do it? Let’s see…
