Shefford Town v Lionesses Away game 2pm KO Attendance:15

Sunny , cold afternoon perfect pitch in perfect condition.

Squad: LEANNE, BRITNEY, CARRIE , RACHEL, ALICE, LIZZIE, AMY, LAUREN, CASEY, GEORGIE.

Two very late calls about player availability had the Lionesses up against it. With only 10 players against the full squad from Shefford this was going to be interesting to say the least! Last minute formation changes meant playing a 3-2-3-1 the seasonal Christmas tree formation as Steve called it.

The Lionesses did not let the formation worry them although it took time to adjust on this very wide pitch it did suit the Lionesses. Some great runs from CASEY & LAUREN up both wings were a handful for there defenders. LEANNE was playing it out from the back to try and keep us possession, and it worked!

It was hard work all round and it took Some clever passing with pace for AMY to get her eye in with a great left foot strike on 26mins. To give the Lionesses a well earned 0-1 lead.

ALICE & BRITNEY along with RACHEL were playing intelligently at the back to use the ball very creatively which gave GEORGIE  time to run at the defence and get a great shot off that bent into the far corner of the net (35 mins ) to make it 0-2.

All the Lionesses were giving 110%, we could not ask anymore from any of them, we surely would not be able to keep this up?  Half time came not a moment to soon. 0-2

Second half going up the slight slope, again we needed to believe in each and let the ball do the work as the big pitch was killing us!

With us tiring  they started to get forward in numbers and the magnificent 10 had to dig so deep. We then got a direct free kick on the right hand side 25 yards out, RACHEL range! shouts of have a shot! So she did, 52mins into the game , she hit it with her right, it bounced right in front of the diving keeper & under her into the corner ! 0-3

With no fresh legs, and all hands already on deck! The pace and tempo had to slow down ,they used there subs wisely and on 70 mins they breached the solid Lionesses defence of BRITNEY, RACHEL, ALICE , CARRIE , & LIZZIE to get one back.

Could we hold on! GEORGIE believed we could and managed to stem any thoughts of a come back by putting it beyond doubt by getting her second on 81 mins . Game over . Thanks to Shefford for a good game and the hospitality. ( Hope the Captains back will be OK! )

Pride, Passion, Passing, Pace. Well done to the magnificent 10 for showing all four of the P’s.

Pat
