First game of the season – a friendly with Stewkley. Please be at Stewkley for 9AM.

A great start to the season with all the boys really playing their hearts out for the whole 60 minutes. The message we gave the boys was, firstly, that whatever happened in the game, the thing that we really wanted them to concentrate on was the shape of the team. To try and conscious about which position they were playing in and try not to be dragged from it and secondly, to use the width of the pitch.

I think you’ll all agree that they did as we asked and for large parts of the game, we really controlled the play.

Josh’s first, left footed, goal was a result of some great passing from down the left wing and was well deserved, 0-1 to us.

Unfortunately Stewkley managed to peg the game back just before half time, I think the only time in the game when the boys took the pedal off and allowed them to dominate possession for 5 or so minutes. Stewkley could have gone 1 ahead but for some great saves from Patrick and some luck off the woodwork!!

Late in the 2nd half a free-kick was awarded and Matei stepped up and floated the most amazing ball in to the far post. As it is with these, either someone’s going to get a touch on it or it’s going to go straight in…. it went straight in off the inside of the post!!

The boys managed to concentrate for the remaining 5 minutes to secure the first win of the season.

Thank you all for the support and look forward to seeing you next week.

Thanks

Lee & Ian
