A day where the weather forecast was alarming and the odds of a late text to say Game Off or even abandonment looked likely. However on arrival although the pitch was a little heavy it was perfectly playable and the rain was a lot lighter than expected.
Woburn only missing Grace away at a family wedding started with a strong line-up – Alice was the obvious choice to be given the nod to deputise for Grace at left back after some great performances in previous weeks.
5 minutes in Casey set-up Amy for a great shot which found the bottom left hand corner of the net. It was all out attack taking the game to Toddington and on 10 minutes it was more a case of who as Amy and Molly were lined up to shoot, Molly scoring with a good volley off the end of Amy’s left foot! Casey and Amy adding further goals which after a quarter of the game gone looked to have secured the points. For the Lionesses teamwork was the main game plan. Toddington were no push over though and the Woburn defence had to be alert on several occasions but with Millie, Michaela and Chloe A alongside Alice you have a highly experienced back line. With Leanne always ready to clear when needed. Probably just as well she was not too busy pink kit and mud! At the other end the Toddington keeper won several rounds of applause, as is usually, the Woburn coaches, squad & parents rate her as one of the best around. Georgie made it 5-0 on half time.
The Woburn parents managed to clear Toddington of mugs at half time such was the coffee/tea drinking, but we are always made to feel very welcome there and appreciate the hospitality.
Jemma was again winning tackles in front of the back four until over stretching on a great block meant she had to come off.
An unfortunate OG straight from a Molly corner gave Woburn a 6th on 53 minutes before captain Millie, after a certain goal was saved at point blank by the GK up & over the bar and fell down on the back of the net!!
Millie always a threat at set pieces made it 7 on the hour. The last 15 minutes saw Woburn stroking the ball from one side of the pitch to the other with goals yet again for Charlie our goalkeeper/centre forward, Maddie worked hard as did Emily up and down the flanks tirelessly and 2 from Chloe (always in the right place at the right time) R, was great to see.
Another good win with a clean sheet.
