Lions Hurricanes U12 2 1 Olney Town Colts Pumas
11th October 2014
Crawley Road, Woburn

Two league wins on the bounce for the boys and what a nerve racking game it was!

If we had some Opta Stats I think they would have shown that we had around 75% of the possession for the game and had it not been for the opposition keeper we’d have probably been 3 or 4 up in the first half.

As it was we came in at half time @ 0-0. A few of the players were unlucky not to have scored, Hugo from corner, Ben with a half chance, Matei with free kick….

Second half and unfortunately, completely against the run of play, Olney put one in the back of the net…. oops 0-1

We still managed to control the run of play, Seth worked tirelessly in the Defensive Midfield role complimenting the work our back three did all game, Cheesebag played the best I’ve seen him play, taking players on and threading the ball up to Tibsy and Dario.

The goal was coming, it was really a matter of time and with a slice of good fortune we got the  first goal. Two Olney defenders deciding who was going to clear the ball was enough of an invitation for Peter to get in and underneath the ball to nod it home….. almost in slow motion 1-1.

Again we continued to control the play and the winning goal was well worked from out of defence through to the midfield and onto Peter who with beat the keeper with his eyes as he sent the ball on its way into the back of the net with both feet off the ground. A fantastic team goal buried on behalf of the whole team by our Player of the Week.

The last few minutes remained and we controlled the play as we had for most of the game but the relief (for me at least)when the final whistle went, was palpable.

I can’t say it enough, watching the boys football this weekend was a real privilege. The really did themselves proud.

Thanks again to Dario and Josh who although didn’t want to go in goal but did so graciously and both did a fantastic job!

Player of the week – Peter (1st time in 3 years apparently…oops)

Thanks also to our Defensive Coach and Referee for the officiating the match and to Mike for running the line.
