Another excellent performance!

Despite losing the tie on penalties this weekend the boys really showed what they can do when they play with grit and determination!

I think the play was 50/50 in the opening 10 minutes or so and some pressure in the opposition penalty area resulted in a hurriedly cleared ball from the Stewkley defence. The ball landed with Peter, who under some pressure played the ball back to Hugo who sent a speculative ball up towards the goal, looping in the air and landing in the back of the net…. 1-0.

The next 10 minutes was all a bit one way, the boys sat back, didn’t get to the ball first and generally didn’t fight to win the ball back and before we knew it 1-1, 1-2 and then 1-3 and then 1-4. Half time was looming and we pulled a goal back from a superb Matei free kick but looked dejected which was a shame as for the first 15 minutes we looked the better side…..

Half time and we reminded them (Ian and I) that we’d beaten this team 4 weeks previous and that when we got to the ball first, passed it down the lines and fought hard to get the ball back we could win this….

Out they went and boom – 2-5…..

And then something clicked, a superb strike from Ben pulled it back 3-5.

Peter then collected the ball from just inside the the halfway line and battled, really battled through 4 players and then finally literally through the Goalkeeper to press the ball home 4-5. We’d got the momentum, Stewkley were in melt down, the goalkeeper was complaining and we kept the pressure up….. Boom another goal 5-5

We’d done it. As far as what happened next was irrelevant. All the boys had stepped up and battled there way back to level pegging with some really attractive football on occasions and some really tough, gritty battling football on others.

The best performance from the team, ever!

Player of the week – Harry Cerrone.

Played the defence midfield role and really led by example. He ran and ran for the whole 45 minute he played and was deserving of the trophy this week. He really showed the team what needed to be done.

We lost the tie on penalties 2-4
