A much better performance from team this weekend, we started off brightly and really troubled Cleanslate Utd from the get go. They were a fairly physical team and we held our own though and the first goal was a result of a free kick awarded to Peter. A ferocious kick and the ball was goal bound, it was almost saved but the power behind it carried the ball into the back of the net. 1-0

We continued to harry and worked hard to retrieve the ball but we lost our shape a little and allowed their attacker to beat the trap and really against the run off play, we allowed them to nick one back. 1-1

The second half started brightly and again another free kick was awarded and it was in Matei range…… a superbly floated ball into the danger zone caused mayhem and our midfield dynamo Ben calmly booted it in to the back of the net. 2-1

We then continued to control the game, and with some great passing and moving we retained possession and moved the ball around the pitch with ease. The third goal was looming and it was claimed this time by Charlie, who jinked around a couple of defenders and blasted the ball home. 3 -1

It looked like we were in control, 17 minutes to go and if the boys continued to play as they had been…… but they didn’t. Goal hungry and sensing that the could grab a couple more meant that we pushed up pitch and left the defense exposed and we quickly handed Cleanslate 2 goals on  a plate… 3-3

Fortunately they re-grouped, realised what had happened and started controlling the game again. This time a ball worked all the way through the middle of the park found it’s way out to Peter out on the right wing. We’d been practicing getting the ball in to the danger zone from the wings and this looked on the money, Josh and Ben were waiting to nod home the cross but it went straight in. 4-3

Now, with 30-40 seconds to go we looked like we were going to record our first win but fate was to deal a cruel card and we failed to clear the ball… 4-4.

It was really unfortunate that we didn’t record our first victory in the league, I think the boys really did deserve the win. We were a much improved side from last weekend and we can go into next weekend on the back of 4 super goals.

Player of the week – This week I was delighted to present Toby Craig with the trophy. He made a really great contribution in the defensive midfield position and got some great tackles in. Well done Toby.
