Whirlwinds Slip Up

After a cracking opening to the season Whirlwinds headed to Roman Rangers for what could be a key result come season end. There is not a lot between these two sides and so it proved.

Whirlwinds opened in breath-taking fashion catching the home team asleep. TC pushes a lovely paced ball to Shane. Shane chips in to Iyanu and the Roman Ranger’s defence is nowhere to be seen as he opens the scoring. 1-0 Whirlwinds.

What a great start and Roman Rangers can’t believe it. But some strong guidance from their coaching staff get them focussed on the job in hand and they control much of the next 15 minutes, Whirlwinds not helping themselves with some sloppy passing and not winning the 50:50 balls.

On 23 minutes the home side break at pace beating the Whirlwinds defence who are caught very flat. H is faced with a 3 on 1 and can’t do much about it as Rangers chip in to an open net. 1-1

Half-time and a few Lions carrying some injuries. Bruce taking a ball full in the face and Conn struggling with an ankle problem.

The second-half continued much in the same vein. Whirlwinds endevour snuffed out by a Rangers team looking a little more energetic and hungry. But the lads defended well for long periods with the odd counter attack, but the Rangers defence is well marshalled and wraps up TC and Iyanu.

With not too long left on the clock Whirlwinds brighten and start to pass the ball at pace. Now they look dangerous and they can definitely grab a result here if they take their chances.

But it is not to be. Caught with a swift counter attack H is faced with a 2 on 1 this time! He commits and stays big, but can do no more as the home team take their second goal. 1-2 Rangers.

Full time. 1-2 Rangers.

Time for the boys to reflect on this one, re-group and bounce back!
