Deserved Win at Last

On a beautiful autumnal afternoon Woburn were in the mood to avenge the league defeat as they took on Flitwick again, this time in the county cup. Early play was all Woburn’s as they swarmed down the Hill at Aspley. Bridget had volunteered to go in goal to give Jess time on the pitch but in the early stages was barely troubled and on 23 minutes Lauren set Charlotte up for goal number 1. Incredibly like buses a second came along just 4 minutes later as Dom’s hard work saw Lara slot a first goal for Woburn at Aspley into the net.
Wave after wave of Woburn attack could not produce a third goal but all looked comfortable at half time.

HT 2-0

Although Woburn started the second half as they finished the first the tempo dropped and some of the shape was lost but the solid defence held on until 70 minutes when a long range shot finally saw Brigit beaten. The last 20 minutes were frantic end to end football, if Lauren had of spotted Alice clear in the box surely the game would have been over, but the chance went and Bridget turned to heroine saving at the feet of a Flitwick forward. After 6 minutes of added time the final whistle was welcome sound. Listening to the ladies afterwards though one thing they have in bucket loads is team spirit, all bodes well.

20th November should see the next round played, draw made on Monday 17th October.

FT 2-1
