Mild early Autumn afternoon in Bedford.
Hurricanes after a slow start to the season saw this as an opportunity to get some much needed points on the board. They forced the early pace, getting an early corner that was well defended by the home side, the ball was recycled in midfield a couple of quick passes and Joseph was in on goal, he shot was well saved by the ‘keeper, but ball rebounded out to Louie who did really well to control his volleyed finish 0-1. It was great start that was soon undone, Hurricanes Achilles Heel thus far this season has been lazy defending, again it was on full show as the ball wasn’t properly contested in the middle of defence, it broke wide and was smashed in to the top right hand corner 1-1. A good start from the away side undone by some shoddy defending.
However going forward the away side looked like they could score almost at will, they quickly got back in to the lead, Joseph as usual cool as ice in front of goal, with Louie the provider 1-2. Louie flashed a header wide from a corner with the goal gaping, from the next corner, Joseph picked the ball up at the back post and set Kian up for a side foot finish 1-3. Hurricanes went looking for more, however the Eastcotts ‘keeper was proving an effective barrier, denying Louie, Joseph and Benji, one particular one handed tip over the bar standing out.
Half time team talk, revolved around trying to play a little more simply, we were tending to over complicate things with too many touches in central areas. Also we need to address our defending, the goal was completely avoidable, better teams will and have taken advantage of this poor defending.
Second half got underway, again Hurricanes dominating the attacking play, however still not moving the ball quick enough allowing Eastcotts to get plenty of men behind the ball, and smother the space. With around a third of the half gone, Benji moved the ball quickly to Louie, who find himself one v one with the left back, he drove past him and towards goal, with the ‘keeper advancing he applied a flicked finish from a very tight angle, the first time we had moved the ball quickly paid dividends 1-4. A corner form the left taken by Jordan, fell kindly for Keiran, who took a touch and slotted in 1-5. Joseph and Louie are starting to look like an effective partnership gaining more understanding every game, good work down the left from Joseph, pulled back to Louie, who drifted across the box, past two defenders and applied a lovely finish to complete his hatrick 1-6. A tiring Eastcotts were now leaving space, Louie clean through wasting a great chance by putting the ball in the side netting with Joseph free for a tap in. Alex got himself on the scoresheet, Louie squaring the ball for him to smash home at the back post 1-7. The calamitous defending returned to put a slight dampener on the second half performance, no words can really explain the actions of the Hurricanes defence, however Eastcotts were delighted to take full advantage 2-7.
Scorers: Louie (3), Joseph, Kian, Kieran, Alex
M.O.T.M: Joe H – a great display on the left of defence, defended properly and used the ball effectively.
And finally, the moment we will really remember from the game………
Thankfully no real harm was done, apart from a few aching sides from the laughter.
