HURRICANES GET HAPPY (well, at least working towards) !
The team started the game on a positive after our friendly match in the week and looked to push on for the first game of the season. We set out with a plan and started well passing the ball around and keeping shape when we lost possession. We went 1-0 up with a great strike from Billy from the right hand side of the box putting the ball past the keeper who couldn’t react quickly enough due to the power in the strike. Wing then pressed and put us under some pressure with the attacking lines being caught forward they drew level after a mistake at the back from our injury stricken defence the score then 1-1.
We then pushed on and continued to dominate possession and play some great football hitting them on the break several times with shots smashing into the side netting on more than one occasion from both Archie F and Dan. Billy then struck the back of the net for a second time with another great finish and finally putting the long awaited smile on his face, the score 2-1.
Omary then put his name on the score sheet after nipping in and tucking the ball away after some great pressure from our forwards to win the ball back and deliver a ball into the area for Omary to finish from close range, the score 3-1.
Wing then pressed us high putting our midfield under pressure and winning several balls from us and hitting us on the break drawing saves from Archie W. We gathered our shape and once again put on some good pressure with attacks down both wings that were being fed from Jake who was playing a new role this season, Dan then picked the ball up on the penalty spot and smashed the ball into the roof of the net with the keeper not even able to react from the power of the shot. Score 4-1.
Wing then pressed forward with a good spell in the game and again we were punished after a mistake when clearing the ball and wing put a great shot across the goal out of the reach of Archie W who was having a great spell in between the posts. Score then 4-2.
The team picked themselves up and continued to put pressure on wing with some great individual efforts from Dan, Khaleeq¸Cameron (Stuart) and Omary, we were rewarded with our attacking efforts when Omary was taken down in the area and the ref left with no option but to point to the penalty spot, Jake stepped up and calmly pushed the ball past the keepers right with his left foot. Score 5-2. We saw the remainder of the game out and it ended 5-2.
The team played really well and showed some good signs adjusting to a new formation and also players putting themselves out for the team and playing out of position.
