League game

We welcomed newly formed team, Barton to our home ground today. We had a full squad for the first time this season and confidence seemed high.

As one of the newest teams to join the league Barton have had a tough ride so far but they should be commended on keeping their heads up throughout the match – we have all been there! In spite of the score line, their goalie put in a very admirable and brave performance.

Olivia looking for goal

Contenders for GOM today were Scoobs, Izzy and Kitty. Scoobs was flying from the off and following a swift attack down the right wing, sunk a long range shot into the net securing WWFC’s first goal of the match and Scoobs’ first this season (much to Jen’s delight!!). This gave the team a desire to score more and many were able to take up the challenge. Scoobs’ hunger for goals continued and she took advantage of every opportunity she could to run onto a loose ball and fire towards goal. Izzy took a heavy knock in the first half and although coming off, she was back on in the second half for more. She ran and played well, skipping through defenders and placing two lovely passes to aid Olivia and Charlotte both to score. Izzy made four assists today.

Scoobs determined to get that ball

Kitty had her scoring boots on today and found the net five times, confidently picking up passes from midfield and striding through the Barton defence to coolly place the balls into the net. Her finishing skill pushed the Woburn goal tally well beyond the opponent’s reach. Kitty was awarded Girl of the Match – well done !

Just proving Mags had something to do

Izzy airborne

Charlotte got her name on the score sheet too this week after slotting a goal home assisted by a weaving run from Izzy. Charlotte showed a renewed confidence today which was lovely to see.  Goals also came from a determined Jas and Olivia.

Barton made a limited number of sorties into the Lionesses’ half but these were competently managed by our defence who were not really under pressure today. Save your energies for our next game!

That’s mine ….says Tayla

The ref called up a lot of foul throws today and at one point the Barton coach lay on the floor and held the feet of his player to the ground to ensure she didn’t lift them off. As the match progressed though, the players soon got to grips with it. The Lionesses too fell foul of the off side rule today but again, as the match progressed, they became more aware of their positioning.
