Woburn Get Back To Winning Ways
A great win for Woburn and Wavendon Tornadoes as they beat Halse Utd as both teams battled it out in this League match. After last weeks result we were all keen to make a mends and boy did our lads rise to the challenge:
Our boys were on it from the whistle, It was catching practice for the Halse Utd keeper in the 4th as he watched Ethan Goodge ’s shot fall safely into his hands. The Halse Utd goalkeeper was called into action again and showed great athleticism to pull off a world class save to deny Luke Roberts in what looked like a certain goal in the 6th minute. Just seconds later we won the ball back thanks to great work from George and played the ball back to Luke Roberts who tried an ambitious effort in the 6th minute but the shot was dragged wide. In the 10th Minute Luke Roberts is put through again but the Halse defence made a terrific last ditch challenge, a great piece of defending. The shots kepts coming from us as Lewis Smith, Freddie Morrison and George Southwell- McKenzie all had shots drag post the post, you could sense us turning the screw and we kept knocking, Even our defence got in on the act as Harry Chappell tried a long range strike… another miss. Yet more shots from Freddie, Luke Roberts, Lewis and George came but the keeper stood firm, it began to feel a little like last week.
Half Time 0-0
At Half time, We couldn’t be unhappy with the performance it was brilliant, the passing was slick, our defence was tight and everyone was fighting for each other, we were just missing a goal. Keep doing what you are doing we instructed, the goal is coming.
It wasn’t long and the door was unlocked, In the 41st minute Lewis Smith picked up the ball from a cross-from-left from Ethan Goodge and hit a crisp strike the goalkeeper fumbled the shot and it trickled into the net. Goal for Woburn and Wavendon Tornadoes.
We smelt blood and straight after the goal we attacked again, Lewis played a lovely ball to Ethan and he was through on goal, the keeper made a great save, it then rebounded to Lewis, Up the keeper got and made another save, it landed to Ethan, surely a goal…the keeper, somehow got up again and made another save. Absolute world class from their keeper.
We started to slow a little and Halse now had a spell of posession, testing Mark in the sticks with a couple of strikes, Mark catching them with confidence. Its worth mentioning that Mark was great today giving instuctions to his defence, although he wasn’t called upon too much, when he needed to be in on the action he was 100% focused.
A couple of subs made and and our team were re-energised. We started to test the keeper again.
We were rewarded when a lovely pass made through to Luke Chapman who darted into the box and slotted into the far corner, an excellent composed finish 2-0 Tornadoes.
We weren’t finished there and as Halses heads dropped, we capitalised. A cross into the box resulted in a lovely half volley strike from Luke Roberts. Great goal. 3-0 Tornadoes
Full Time 3-0
Manager Interview: A fantastic response from the lads this week after last weeks disappointing result. We challenged them to play slick passing football and not be tempted to play like the opposition, they surpassed that challenge with ease. A Sterling effort from all the boys. We want to build on this now with hard work in training so we are ready for next weeks game against MK Wanderers.
