WWFC U9s Lionesses welcomed Luton Town Ladies U9s to their first home game of the season. Both teams put in tremendous effort in a fast-paced match which demonstrated their respective strengths. Some strong positional play and teamwork resulted in an end-to-end first half with Luton scoring first, followed by an unlucky bounce off the line for WWFC on the half-time whistle. The second half was action-packed with successive goals for Luton, punctuated by a WWFC goal from the half-way line! Luton’s relentless attacking skills were countered by a steady defence from WWFC, including notable clearances and goalkeeping. The passion from both sides was high throughout and superb sportsmanship was shown with smiles and handshakes at the end of the match. All players should be proud of their achievements for the second match of the season.
WWFC Lionesses U9s kicked off the season against Stotfold FC Juniors U9 Girls in a closely fought encounter which swung back and forth over the course of the match. As the first match for both of these newly formed teams, there was lots to enjoy for players, supporters and coaches alike. Stotfold got off the mark first, but this was a game of comebacks, as both teams showed lots of determination to put on a great performance. A first team goal for WWFC, some excellent defensive play and a first hat-trick for one player were just some of the highlights. By the final whistle there were smiles and celebrations all round as both teams were applauded off the pitch and shook hands.
This is the start of what we hope will be a long and hugely enjoyable journey for all the girls and everyone can rightly say they did themselves proud today!
