After a brave battle for the last 2 years, it’s with great sadness that we announce the loss of Shayen Patel, a Woburn & Wavendon FC U14s player and friend to many, and now a WWFC angel who will forever watch over our games.

Shay was a brave ‘lion’ who was passionate about football and supported so many players in the team with his kindness and laughter as he regarded everyone as a friend. We’re extremely proud to be able to say that such kind, caring and devoted boy wore our club badge every week throughout his footballing steps, even taking to the pitch last year to play with his friends whilst going through treatment for a brain tumour (we have a video of him scoring during this game!).

Through his battle, Shay would always look to be positive for the people around him, as well as consider others that he didn’t know but wanted to help as he was looking to set up a charity to help families going through a child’s cancer diagnosis. Shay’s parents will carry this on for him and have set up a memorial fund that will be used for the charity.

Shay’s family will be celebrating his life tomorrow (Saturday 12th September) as they lay him to rest and from everyone at Woburn & Wavendon FC, we send our love and thoughts to all of his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
