What is Foundation Football?
At Woburn & Wavendon FC, we know that a child’s first experience with football should be all about fun and full of smiles! We want to spark their love for the game, which is why we proudly host our Foundation Football program every Sunday. It’s our way of giving back to the community and ensuring that every young player leaves each session with a desire to keep playing!
Our Foundation Football sessions are a fantastic opportunity for children aged 4 years old to 10 years old to grow their love for football! Led by our experienced coaches from Woburn & Wavendon FC, fun-filled training sessions and games are delivered to spark joy and excitement in every young player. With years of experience and a passion for nurturing talent, our coaches create a welcoming environment where children can enjoy the game, no matter their age, skill level, or familiarity with football.
How we group the children
We run four sessions over the two hours, which are split as follows:

Group 1 (led by Pat and supported by Joseph & Emily)
Pat Mancini is at the forefront of Group 1, where our enthusiastic 4-year-olds embark on a journey to boost their confidence and learn the importance of teamwork. Additionally, we offer a special hour exclusively for girls aged 4 to 10, providing a fantastic opportunity for them to come together and grow into our future Lionesses. It’s all about fun, friendship, and fostering a love for the game!
Group 2 (led by Asad and supported by Mikail, Zeemi & Fin)
Asad Asif heads up Group 2, where we focus on helping players master their football skills and prepare them for competitive play as they evolve into the ‘future stars’ of the game. Our sessions are packed with plenty of time with a football at their feet and mini matches to get them ready to be part of a team. Plus, we offer an open session in the second hour that brings back the spirit of community football (think ‘street football’) to inspire and challenge the kids in a fun, engaging way!
Group 3 (led by Joseph)
Joseph Hannigan wears the gloves for our goalkeeper session, where the focus is developing the key skills, confidence and quick thinking needed to become a real last line of defence. From shot stopping and brave handling to positioning, distribution and those all important 1v1s, sessions are packed with challenges, games and plenty of action. With lots of opportunities to make saves, make decisions, and maybe even pull off the off ‘worldie’, we’ll help the goalkeepers build the confidence and skills to become the ‘future stars’ between the sticks.

What do I do if my child wants to attend?
We understand that busy weekends can make weekly commitments challenging, so we offer our sessions on a ‘pay as you attend’ basis (sessions are £3). This means we hold sessions every week, but you can join whenever it suits you.
All of our sessions take place in Wavendon. During the Spring and Summer, we enjoy playing on grass pitches, and when Autumn and Winter arrive, we transition to all-weather 3G pitches. This way, every child can keep participating, no matter the season. We kindly request that all children bring a water bottle and wear shin pads, along with appropriate footwear for their sessions. This ensures everyone stays safe and hydrated while having a great time!
